Who are these qualifications for?
Advice and Guidance NVQs are suitable for people working in a support or advisory situation. This covers a wide range of organisations including employment services, career guidance, student services, apprenticeship advisors, probation workers, training providers, health sector careers advisers, volunteer groups, housing associations, support networks, etc.
- Level 3 is most suitable for practitioners who work directly with clients, disseminating information and advice, and giving some level of guidance. They will be working with information that is often interpreted by others and working within some clear guidelines.
- Level 4 will suit experienced practitioners working directly with clients. They might also have some management or training responsibilities. In addition they could be responsible for creating information, advice and guidance - either for disseminating themselves as practitioners or through their organisations in the form of publications. They are also likely to be working in a dynamic relationship with other departments, organisations or services.
Entry Requirements
Whilst there are no formal requirements to start this qualification, as with all NVQs, you need to be working in a job role such as those described above and be in a position to collect appropriate evidence.
Qualification Delivery
The journey to your Advice and Guidance NVQ qualification begins with a ‘skills scan’ and action planning. Candidates plan a programme of development and assessment with their assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove that they are competent and knowledgeable within their role.
Regular interaction is maintained with your assessor who will provide developmental feedback against the evidence presented. Assessment further comprises a mixture of ‘on the job’ observations and professional discussion.
