Programme Aim
The SFEDI Endorsed Award for Business Information Officers is designed to demonstrate that you can provide quality, up-to-date, accurate and appropriate business support and information, which will help small business owners/managers to develop and operate their business.
Business Information Officer Framework
The award is made up of six sections based on the SFEDI National Occupational Standards for Business Support and Business Information:
- Personal Professional Development
- Dealing with initial business information enquiries
- Researching and providing clients with the Business information they need
- Contributing to administering and promoting business information services
- Providing and maintaining the materials needed to deliver business support
- Knowing how a small business works
Who is this award for?
This award is for those who are in work roles where they provide business support and information services to self-employed, micro and small businesses. Individuals must be committed to developing their own professional practice and knowledge base to be able to provide the most appropriate business information.
It is suitable for individuals whose work roles involve a range of activities which include dealing with enquires from clients, directing clients to appropriate services to suit their needs, and working with colleagues and contacts in an effective manner.
Delivery
Every candidate will have a personal assessor allocated to them.
A typical journey towards achieving the qualification will involve:
- Completion of a self-assessment against the award framework
- An initial meeting with your assessor to review your existing skills/current role. Together you will plan how you will demonstrate that you meet the standards and how you will fill any gaps through a development plan.
- Observation(s) by your assessor of you carrying out your role, feedback and discussion.
- Gathering evidence to demonstrate that you meet the requirements of the qualification.
- A final professional discussion and agreement of ongoing professional development.
You would normally be expected to complete the qualification within 12 months.
What about training and development?
As with other SFEDI awards, you are not required to attend specific courses or programmes of study. Where you identify a gap in your knowledge or performance you decide, in consultation with your assessor, how you will fill that gap.
WMQC offers various workshops and/or mentoring to meet your specific needs. Your assessor will be able to discuss these with you.
